Italy is my personal favourite holiday destination of them all. And if you are going to visit Italy, then you absolutely have to do it by boat. Sailing is a nice way to do it you can choose whatever itinerary you like, and you can pull into any ports that you like. But sailing can often be stressful: when you're actually sailing and not just motoring along on the engine it takes a lot of energy from the crew and requires a lot of people to be constantly looking out and working to ensure that you catch the wind at the right time.
This is why so many people choose instead of sailing on a sail boat to take a cruise instead. On a cruise you are so much more free to do whatever you want with your time. You do not have to spend any of your time while on a cruise dedicating yourself to the actual transportation and can instead let professional sailors do that for you.
You see, Italy cruises are the perfect way to explore the Italian coast. From the Mediterranean to the Aegean Sea, it's a wonderful place. It's also really nice to explore a fairly small country while on a cruise ship. This allows you to avoid having to spend any sea days motoring along and doing nothing in the day except lounging around on deck and relaxing.
This is of course something that many people actually really like to do, but in Italy you will have the choose likely every single day, if you'd rather spend much of your time on shore-excursions to various sites of ancient Rome, or just to traditional old harbours to eat traditionally good old Italian food cooked by people in the traditional way. On Italy cruises you'll likely be served some very Italian cuisine, and you'll likely be served by Italians too, but it's not until you actually get onshore on the shore-excursion that you'll see exactly what real and traditional Italian cuisine looks like. One of the must see places in Italy on Italy cruises is Florence.
This ancient walled city is small enough that it makes an idea day-trip excursion from your boat. It didn't always make up part of Italy, and in fact much of Italy was split up into these city states. It's a beautiful that still retains much of its old world charm. If you're going to take any shore-excursions then you should definitely take that one.
