When you hear the words Island cruises you'll probably think about the Caribbean. The Caribbean is of course one of the most popular locations for cruises. People love that they can get on a boat in Fort Lauderdale and then in a week or so have already seen so many different Caribbean islands.
With each cruise-ship's many boats, shore excursions are frequent and popular. After all, that's the whole point of the trips right? To check out the islands? Of course, you are welcome to check out the islands from afar on deck while sipping on a margarita or perhaps kicking back on the sun lounger after all the ship will be pretty empty with so many people opting to head to the islands to check out the white sandy beaches. And so should you! But there's quite a difference between island cruises and Island cruises.
Island cruises is actually a brand owned by Thompson Cruises, and while by it's name you may assume that it only operates in the Caribbean, it actually operates there, of course, as well as in the continents that you wouldn't so much associated with the word island: Europe and South America. The company primarily targets the family market, and suggests that people on their cruises will find that they become "totally relaxed." They are trying really to open up cruising to a new demographic of young people.
The exact sort of young people who may previously have considered cruising to be something that is for older people or for singles perhaps. So it's a great big demographic to get your hands on, after all they are people with a lot of disposable income and cruise lines would be crazy to not get their hands on it. Island cruises have done well to exploit this gap.
In line with attracting a younger generation of passenger, the atmosphere on board is much more friendly and welcoming than in older more formal ships. But most importantly is the fact that on Island cruises you'll see that everyone is more relaxed. There's is no where that you are set to sit at dinner, there's no dress code, and the atmosphere is so relaxed that you'll find that it actually allows anyone of any age to book and enjoy themselves. It's a good cruise for first timers who want to check out what cruising is all about, and whether the atmosphere is something that they could enjoy on future cruises, or just people looking for a change from the usual holiday.
