European cruises are a personal favourite of mine. First of all, the price point is always going to be good. While many other people will be down in the Caribbean, if you want to get a cut price cruise then European cruises are an excellent choice. And there's no real reason that they need to be cut price.
While they may not have the desert islands (unless you count the thousands of Greek and Turkish islands) and they may not have the beautiful wildlife (unless you count all the whales and dolphins) they do have an incredible cultural history for you to explore. Many European cruises will be sure to stop at Venice. You should definitely ensure that you do this because Venice is quite simply not going to around for ever. It's flooding to a greater degree every single year and you need to get there quickly before it begins to disappear quickly.
So that's Venice. A must stop on European cruises, and an early victim of climate change. There's a wide range of other incredible places that you should ensure that your cruise will be stopping at.
First of all there's Athens. This ancient city and its incredible culture is something that you will never forget but more importantly as someone who is deciding where they want to take a cruise is the fact that there are few places in the world that cruises visit other than Europe where you can see ancient civilization preserved so well. On European cruises you can also go to Rome and see the birth of an ancient empire, or you can take a shore-excursion to Barcelona and see the incredible architecture and perhaps the world's finest cathedral.
Then there's the whole glitzy south coast of France. The French Riviera is not glitzy in a cliché Las Vegas kind of way, but in a real glamorous way that isn't cheap. In the casinos and excellent restaurants you'll think it's a world away from Vegas. While you're in Europe you should also take a cruise that takes in some more off-the-beaten-track destinations like Croatia. Not only does it have a beautiful long coastline where you can expect many miles of beaches. Take a trip deeper in the country and you'll find some of the world's most incredible lakes. It's well worth a little detour, just to smell some fresh water for a change! You will not regret it.
