There's Something Fishy About This Discovery

China has always been a frontrunner in the discovery of new things - from technology to cuisine. But what about freshwater wildlife? A small community in China has been the centre of attention upon the discovery of an unknown species of fish, which some are calling 'alien'.

Picture the scene: 1000m below the ground of Daluo village in China's Guanxi province, an underwater lake sits undiscovered for centuries. Until one day some curious locals venture into the cave - known as the Cave of Fortune - and find what can only be described as some out of this world looking fish.

There had been stories in the local villages for many years about the existence of these odd looking creatures, but no proof. Until now. In fact, many of the elders from the local villages refused to believe that these fish had been found until they saw one of the little swimmers for themselves. They must've been more than a little surprised!

Upon the discovery, the fish - which looks a little bit like a slimy duck with a moustache (you can't make this stuff up!) - was sent for analysis by top biologists. Unfortunately, they were unable to identify the fish. It could well be then that this sleepy little Chinese village has happened upon a brand new species. It's either that or they've triggered an alien invasion - only time will tell. Eyes on the skies people!

The area containing the Cave of Fortune is famed locally for the longevity of its residents. So who knows how long these fish have been swimming around underground? And with scores of people in the nearby villages clocking up over 100 years of age, there's certainly something going on!

Maybe there's something in the water?
